Bed Bug Problems

Bed bugs have become an increasing problem within the past few years here in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City, NV. Bed bugs feed mainly on human blood but also suck blood from animals, birds, and bats. Bed bugs usually feed at night when people are asleep. As they feed they inject a salivary secretion into the wound to prevent coagulation. This fluid often causes the skin to itch and become swollen. Scratching causes sores which may become infected. The adult bed bug is light brown and is about 1/4 inch long. Newly hatched bed bugs are almost colorless and similar to the adult except they are much smaller. After feeding, bed bugs have a darker color because they are filled with blood.

Bed Bug Life Cycle

Bed bugs lay eggs that are 1/25 inch long and the eggs hatch in about a week. The newly hatched nymph is tan colored before feeding. After getting a blood meal, the nymph, believe it or not, turns a blood color. There are 5 stages and it usually takes 5-7 weeks for nymphs to mature. Female bed bugs lay up to 50 eggs at a time. A total of 200-500 eggs can be produced per female in her life cycle. The eggs hatch in 1-3 weeks. Adult bed bugs can survive more than a year without feeding! In some cases they survive without humans by attacking birds and rodents.

Bed Bug Treatment

During the day bed bugs hide near their food source in cracks of walls, behind baseboards and pictures, in the seams of mattresses, in box springs, and in the cracks of night stands and dressers. They will hide anywhere and in anything. Bed bugs are carried into homes in clothes, bags, newly purchased used furniture such as beds, couches, and bedroom furniture. If bed bugs have become a problem in your home, infested furniture and other infested items should be thrown away. If the furniture or items cannot be thrown away, Agent Pest Control will treat the couch or bed with liquid pesticides. The mattress will be treated on the seams along with the box spring and bed frame. We will treat the baseboards along the carpet areas where the bed bugs may be hiding. To prevent infestations in rooms we are not treating we will put dust pesticides in the walls. Whatever furniture you must keep should be treated with liquid pesticides. We at Agent Pest Control use products that are safe to use in the home or business by our licensed professionals. All our work is guaranteed.
